China’s Qoros Automotive Co. Ltd. is partnering with Sweden’s Koenigsegg AB on a concept electric vehicle that the two carmakers will introduce later this month at the Shanghai auto show.
The so-called “super EV” has an estimated 500-km (310-mile) driving range and can zip from zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds, according to the partners. The companies didn’t provide any information about the battery or other performance metrics.
Teaser shots of the vehicle show a compact fastback design. Media reports speculate that the car, which is expected to be called the Qoros 9 Q-Lectriq, will have a carbon fiber body and a solar roof panel.
Earlier this year Qoros cut its workforce more than 20% and said it was transitioning into a “new-energy” vehicle maker. The carmaker unveiled the all-electric 3 Q-Lectriq concept compact car at last year’s Shanghai show. A production version of that vehicle is expected to be launched later this year.
Formed a decade ago, Qoros is co-owned by China’s Chery Automobile Co. and Israel Corp.’s Singapore-based Kenon Holdings Ltd. affiliate. Koenigsegg has worked with Qoros on several other projects, including a prototype camless engine.
