PSA Peugeot Citroen SA says it soon will begin publishing “real world” fuel economy information for its most popular vehicles. The process will be overseen by an unnamed independent group.

PSA also is adopting new technical measures that support the pending worldwide harmonized light vehicle test procedures due to be implemented in Europe in 2017. The regulations aim to more accurately reflect battery charge, alternator use and other non-optimized operating conditions to predict fuel efficiency and emissions levels.

In response to Volkswagen AG’s diesel emissions cheating scandal, PSA asked its engineering teams to conduct an internal review and make recommendations for improvements regarding emissions and fuel efficiency. Stressing that it has never used software to manipulate testing, PSA notes that it holds 100 patents related to selective catalytic reduction aftertreatment technology and was the first carmaker to install such systems across its European diesel lineup.

About 60% of the vehicles PSA sells in Europe are equipped with diesel engines.
