PSA Peugeot Citroen says its renewed profitability has revived thoughts of re-entering to the American car market.
The company stopped selling Citroen and Peugeot models in the U.S. in 1974 and 1991, respectively. It maintained a liaison office in Detroit until 2013.
PSA brand chief Yves Bonnefont tells Automobilwoche the company will reveal its new global growth strategy on April 5. He notes that PSA’s premium DS brand, which was launched five years ago in China and Europe, would be a “natural candidate” to bring to the American market.
Any return to the U.S. is likely to take some time, since PSA lacks a North American distribution network, Automotive News points out. One executive tells the newspaper price would be an issue, because PSA would have to import all models until it establishes local production capacity.
