Porsche AG plans to increase production by an unspecified amount for its upcoming all-electric Taycan sedan, based on stronger than expected initial demand.

More than 20,000 customers already have registered—and placed €2,500 ($2,800) deposits—to buy the vehicle. This equals Porsche’s original annual sales projection for the Taycan.

Porsche will unveil the production version of the Taycan at the Frankfurt auto show in September. Sales are expected to begin by year-end.

Porsche will build the Taycan at its plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany. A wagon variant of the vehicle, based on last year’s Cross Turismo concept, will be added for the 2021-model year.

The Taycan is powered by a pair of electric motors that generate a combined 600 hp. Porsche says the EV’s battery can provide more than 300 miles of range on the European cycle. The vehicle first appeared in concept form as the Mission E (pictured) in 2015.
