Sen. Rob Portman (R.) and Sherrod Brown (D.) also ask the company to detail how much it will cost to close its plant in Lordstown, Ohio, and how many jobs will be lost among suppliers to that facility as a result.
Lordstown, which produces the slow-selling Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan, is among three assembly plants and two components factories GM says it will shutter in North America within a year.
GM CEO Mary Barra has said she would keep an “open mind” about the future of the Lordstown complex. But GM also has said it has no plans to retool the facility for another vehicle program. Barra says the company’s final decision will be held until labor contract talks next year with the United Auto Workers union.
