Nissan Motor Co. has chosen Airton Cousseau, managing director of its China venture with Dongfeng Motor Co., to take over U.S. sales and marketing on June 1.
Cousseau was president of Nissan Mexico before beginning his China assignment nearly three years ago. He also is a former executive at General Motors and Hyundai.
His promotion caps a major shakeup of Nissan’s North American sales unit that will install new heads of digital services, dealer relations and multiple regional sales activities, effective May 1. Dave Mazur, who had been vice president of customer quality in North America, has quit.
Nissan continues to struggle in the U.S. after suffering a 6% sales drop to 1.49 million units last year. The company is trying to reduce its volume of low-profit fleet sales, but a costly retail incentive program has failed to make up the difference
Nissan’s group sales shrank 12% to 331,500 units in the first quarter of 2019, according to Automotive News.
