Nissan Motor Corp. confirms that it expects to boost American sales of its Leaf electric subcompact to about 20,000 units during the current fiscal year ending in March 2013 about 10,000 units in the previous 12 months Bloomberg New reports.

Nissan said last summer that volume would be limited to 20,000 Leaf EVs through 2012.

Bill Krueger, vice chairman of the company's U.S. unit, tells the news service that the start of Leaf production in December at its factory in Smyrna, Tenn., will help meet demand. He says tight supply has damped U.S. Leaf sales, which plunged 55% to 510 units in May.
