Nissan Motor Co. says it has altered emission and fuel economy data for 19 models sold in Japan.

The doctored data applies only to vehicles sold in Japan and did not ultimately change certification ratings, according to Nissan. Subaru Corp. admitted in April to a similar infraction.

The company says an internal investigation of 2,200 sample tests performed at six Nissan plants in Japan found evidence of falsification in more than half the results, Reuters reports. The company believes the tampering began in 2013 and involved 10 employees.

Nissan’s revelation comes nine months after the company announced that for decades it had allowed uncertified inspectors to sign off on the quality of cars it sold in Japan. That issue prompted the company to recall and re-inspect 1.2 million vehicles and suspended production for two weeks at all assembly plants in Japan.
