Salt Lake, Utah-based Nikola Motor Co. has begun taking $750 refundable deposits for its upcoming $37,500 all-electric off-road utility vehicle.

The dune buggy-like four-seater is powered by a 72-kWH battery pack and four electric motors that can generate 520 hp, according to the company. The battery pack is nearly 50% larger than the 50-kWH unit the Nikola previously had planned for the vehicle.

The company claims the vehicle, which is dubbed the Zero (for zero emissions), can sprint to 60 mph in three seconds and has a driving range of 100 to 200 miles. Fitted with 32-inch tires, the all-wheel-drive Zero has a ground clearance of 14.5 inches. The motor and gearbox are waterproof to allow the vehicle to traverse shallow streams.

Nikola also is developing a fuel cell-powered Class 8 truck called the “One,” which it plans to unveil later this year.
