Hyundai Motor Co. says its upcoming Ioniq compact electrified car will have best-in-class aerodynamic features to further improve the vehicle’s fuel efficiency. The vehicle will be built on a dedicated platform with three variants: a conventional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and an all-electric model.
Teaser images and recent spy shots of the Ioniq show a notchback sedan with coupe-like styling. Other design cues include Hyundai’s hexagonal grille, a low hood and raised rear deck. The front-end also includes active grille flaps to direct airflow around the vehicle.
The Ioniq's roofline is similar to that of other recent "green" models such as the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt. Media reports speculate the hybrid variants will include a 1.6-liter engine.
Hyundai plans to publicly unveil the all-new model next month in South Korea and launch global salesin the first half of 2016.
