Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk made good on his promise to quit two of President Donald Trump’s industry advisory boards after the president made good on his promise to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement.
Trump, who once described manmade climate change a hoax, considers the environmental goals agreed to by the U.S. for itself during the Obama administration too onerous for American business. Musk, declaring that “climate change is real,” asserts that abandoning the Paris accord is “not good for America or the world.”
General Motors Co. says CEO Mary Barra will remain on the advisory panel. The company says doing so will enable it to help develop policies that “support a strong and competitive economy and automotive industry.”
Ford Motor Co.’s role isn’t clear. The company had been represented on Trump’s advisory panel by CEO Mark Fields, who was replaced last week by Jim Hackett. Ford tells Reuters that it remains “deeply committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
