Tesla Motors Inc. CEO Elon Musk declares there "definitely won't be a recall" of the company's Model S electric car after three crash-related fires in five weeks.
Two of the fires occurred after Model S drivers hit large metal objects in the road. The third happened in Mexico after a high-speed crash. None of the drivers was injured.
Musk, who says some media reports of the incidents were "extremely inaccurate and unreasonable," says conventionally powered cars are about six times as likely as a Model S to have a fire. Tesla has sold about 16,300 of the electric sedans so far this year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which found no reason to take action after the first Model S fire, says it is assessing details about the latest blaze.
