BMW AG will expand its use of touchscreen infotainment systems, which debuted recently on the company’s flagship 7 Series sedan, to its X5 and X6 crossover/SUV models later this year, according to BMW Blog.

The enthusiast Web site, which doesn’t cite its sources, says the high-performance M variants of the two models also are expected to add touchscreens in the near future. In addition to keypads and buttons, the screens also have smartphone-type touch controls, such as swipe, scroll, pinch-zoom and drag.

The crossovers are not in line to get the 7 Series’ gesture control system until their next-generation replacements are launched, according to the report.
