Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit will race under the Mercedes-EQ name when it launches its Formula E electric vehicle race team for the 2019/2020 season.
Mercedes has said it will market future all-electric models under its new EQ sub-brand. The carmaker will use “EQ Power” for plug-in hybrid vehicles and “EQ Power+” for high-performance hybrids.
Mercedes motorsports partner HWA AG also will work with the Mercedes-EQ team. The German engineering firm, which was spun off from Daimler’s AMG performance unit in 1998, oversaw Mercedes’ involvement in the DTM German Touring Car series. Mercedes pulled out of that circuit last year to focus its efforts on Formula E and its successful Formula One teams.
