Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit plans to launch production of electric vehicles at its Bremen, Germany, plant by the end of the decade.

Daimler expects to introduce 10 EVs under its new EQ sub-brand by 2025. The first model will be based on the near-production EQ concept crossover model unveiled at last month’s Paris auto show.

Mercedes currently manufactures 10 vehicles in Bremen, ranging from the C- and E-Class cars to the SL/SLC roadsters and GLC crossover—including some plug-in hybrid variants. The company also plans to add a fuel cell-powered version of the GLC in the future.

Earlier this month Daimler’s Accumotive battery subsidiary announced plans to expand its complex in Kamenz, Germany, to make lithium-ion batteries for Mercedes EQ and Smart-badged EVs. The plant also will assemble batteries for stationary energy storage systems and 48-volt systems for future plug-in hybrid cars.
