Mercedes Targets Carbon Neutral Fleet by 2039

Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit expects plug-in hybrids and all-electric models will comprise more than half of its vehicle sales by 2030, enabling its new vehicle fleet to be carbon neutral by 2039.
The carmaker launched production of its all-electric EQC small crossover (pictured) last week in Germany. The vehicle is the first of 10 EVs Daimler plans to introduce under the EQ sub-brand by 2025.
The initiative, which Daimler calls its Ambition2039 plan, represents a “fundamental transformation” of the company’s lineup in less than three product cycles, incoming CEO Ola Kallenius says. The carmaker also is introducing electrified commercial trucks, buses and vans.
In addition to EVs and hybrids, Daimler is developing fuel cell-powered vehicles and alternative fuel systems, Kallenius says. The company also is evaluating “green” production systems. This includes using renewable sources to power the EQC vehicle manufacturing and battery plants in Germany.
