Daimler sold 162,700 Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles in September, surpassing rival Audi by 2,800 units and moving into second place behind BMW in the luxury car market.

BMW reports sales of 167,600 units of its namesake brand in September. All three carmakers are introducing new models to boost sales. Audi and Mercedes both have vowed to surpass BMW by 2020.
