Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit may launch a sub-brand, similar to BMW AG’s “i” brand, to market next-generation electric vehicles.

Daimler’s supervisory board will vote on the issue on July 20, Handelsblatt reports. It says the new brand could be launched as early as September at the Paris auto show, where Mercedes is due to unveil a concept EV based on its GLC crossover/SUV.

A production version of the new concept model is expected to bow next year as the first of four EVs Mercedes plans to launch by 2020, according to a report last month by Autocar. The U.K. enthusiast magazine, which doesn’t cite its sources, says the other three vehicles will be built on the carmaker’s new “modular electric architecture” and have driving ranges of at least 250 miles.
