Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is setting up a network of 100 dealerships in 30 cities in the current fiscal year to sell it new Nexa brand of premium vehicles, The Economic Times reports.
The first Nexa model will be the 1 million-rupee ($15,700) S-Cross crossover vehicle due in August. The company says it will not rebrand the Ciaz sedan, the largest car in its current portfolio, as a Nexa model.
Maruti Suzuki, which is known for its small cars, says the new brand will target its own base of 1.5 million customers, many of them third-generation buyers. The company has hired 700 people from such sectors as aviation, financial services and hospitality to help create a "differentiated luxury-car buying experience."
Maruti Suzuki sales, which totaled a record 1.29 million in the fiscal year ended March 31, aims to hike annual volume to 2 million by 2020. The company's deliveries are up about 14% in the current fiscal year.
