China’s Le Holdings Co. (LeEco) planned to roll out the LeSee, a concept self-driving electric sport sedan, in San Francisco yesterday. But the car missed its chance to drive on stage automatically as planned.

The original prototype reportedly was involved in a crash on its way to San Francisco. A backup model was flown in from London but arrived too late for its rollout. Instead, LeEco founder Jia Yueting jogged onto the stage and explained the mishap.

The company, which first showed the LeSee in Beijing in April, later put the car on static display at the San Francisco event.

Jia says the car may be supported by an unspecified association with Faraday Future Inc., his Gardena, Calif.-based EV startup. Faraday may show a production version of its first car in January at the CES event in Las Vegas.
