Japan has now turned up a seventh case where Takata Corp. airbags in scrapped cars exploded when triggered.

Bloomberg News says the latest incident involved one of Toyota Motor Corp.'s 2003 WiLL Cypha minicars a model not included among the 2.6 million Takata-equipped vehicles being recalled in Japan.

Japan's recyclers are required to remove or deploy airbags before scrapping the vehicles. They also are encouraged to report any malfunctions to Japan's transport ministry.

Investigators also have catalogued four Takata airbag misfires in Takata airbags in Honda Fit small cars and two in Toyota Corolla sedans since June 2012, according to Bloomberg.

In the latest incident, a scrapyard operator tells the news service the airbag shattered the windshield and sprayed metal shrapnel onto the floor of the vehicle.
