Jaguar Ltd. is considering several powertrain options for its next-generation F -Type sports car, including an all-electric model, Autocar reports.

Launching in 2021, the all-new F-Type coupe is expected to have an aluminum-intensive construction and maintain its two-seat layout. A lightweight EV-dedicated architecture with the battery packaged under the floor would allow designers more freedom to create a bold look that Autocar says could rival the brand’s iconic 1960s-era E-Type roadster.

The timing of the vehicle would allow it to benefit from next-generation batteries that promise more power and greater driving range. Two electric motors likely would be used to enable all-wheel drive, according to the report.

Jaguar Land Rover previously has indicated it will source V-8 engines for future models from BMW AG. Autocar says the engine is being evaluated for use in the new F-Type, but it isn’t clear if this would be in place of or in addition to an electric powertrain.

Earlier this year JLR said it will offer hybrid and all-electric powertrain options in all new Jaguar and Range Rover vehicles in 2020. Jaguar launched its first EV, the I-Pace crossover, this summer.
