European analysts and institutional investors became more pessimistic in April about Germany's economic outlook for the next six months, according to the Centre of European Economic Research (ZEW).
The Mannheim, Germany-based group's sentiment index for Germany fell to 36.3 this month from a three-year high of 48.5 in March. Despite the decline, the result is still the third-highest reading in the past two years.
ZEW notes that the drop in confidence reflects shrinking German exports to the rest of the eurozone and uncertainty caused by the region's continuing debt crisis.
