India aims to put 10,000 electric vehicles into government fleets by March 2019, 10 months later than originally planned.
The program, which is being coordinated by the government’s Energy Efficiency Services agency, tells Bloomberg News the delay is due to the slow pace of installing EV charging points. The agency has deployed about 250 electrics to date and says there are 200 charging stations in India, half of them in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a goal of raising EVs to 30% of vehicles on the road in India by 2030. But observers have criticized the government’s lack of specifics about how to reach that target.
