Hyundai Motor Co.’s unionized workers began a series of two-hour strikes today as part of their annual quest for higher wages and more job security.
Workers also are refusing to work on weekends. The mini-strikes mark the sixth consecutive year of such protests ahead of contract talks with the company, notes The Korea Herald.
This year, Hyundai’s union is demanding a monthly wage increase worth 154,900 won ($136) and profit sharing equal to 30% of the carmaker’s net profit last year. The workers also want their jobs to be guaranteed regardless of the impact of automation and other advanced manufacturing techniques.
