Honda Motor Co. plans to begin on Oct. 23 to recall 245,000 of its vehicles in China to replace their unreliable Takata Corp. airbag inflators.
The devices have been linked to at least 16 fatalities and ten times that number of injuries—almost all of them involving Honda vehicles. But the use of similar Takata devices by other carmakers has prompted more than a dozen of them to join Honda in recalling about 100 million vehicles worldwide.
Honda will conduct the China recall through its Guangqi Honda Automobile venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group. The callback will involve at least eight models dating back to 2001.
