Honda, Partners Plan Low-Cost Hybrid for China

Honda, Dongfeng Motor and Guangzhou Automobile will co-develop a 1.5 million-yen ($14,400) car and introduce it in China in 2016, according to The Nikkei.
The newspaper, which cites no sources, says the car will be based on the Honda Fit hybrid car, which sells in Japan for about $15,700. Tariffs hike the price of a Fit hybrid imported to China to about $28,900, the newspaper says.
The partners plan to initially build several thousand of the cars but could boost annual output to as many as 30,000 units if demand warrants, The Nikkei says. The report doesn't say where the vehicle will be produced.
