Honda Motor Co. confirms it will end production of its $19,000 Insight hybrid car this summer because of poor demand.

The company said earlier this month it was phasing out the car in Europe after sales there plummeted 62% to fewer than 1,300 units in 2013. Reports of the European cutback first surfaced last October.

Honda sold only 4,800 Insights in the U.S. last year. The company says it plans to introduce unspecified new "environmental" models using more efficient gasoline engines and "electromotive" technologies.
