Volvo Car Corp. and Google Inc. are partnering to introduce an Android-base in-car infotainment system for Volvo about two years from now.
The system will enable drivers to access special apps developed by the partners or outside parties through the car itself rather than a smartphone cellular link. Volvo currently offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which offer similar capabilities but require a smartphone cellular link to work.
Separately, Volvo is working with Google on a location-base service app called Google Local Search. Volvo says the feature will become available as an update to the carmaker’s Sensus Navigation system.
