Union workers in South Korea have approved a one-year labor agreement with General Motors Co. by a 55% margin, Reuters reports.

The pact will increase base monthly pay for hourly workers by 83,000 won ($71) and give those employees one-time payments totaling 10.5 million won ($8,900).

GM also has agreed to add production of Chevrolet Malibu sedans on a second line at its factory in Bupyeong. Workers had feared GM might shut down the second line. The company tells Reuters South Korea will remain an export base for "mature advanced markets" such as the U.S.
