General Motors Co. has appointed Paul Edwards as vice president in charge of Chevrolet's U.S. marketing, effective immediately.

He succeeds Chris Perry, who quit last month after three years in senior Chevrolet marketing positions.

Edwards had been executive director of global marketing at GM since 2010. Previously he was in charge of Chevy advertising; then head of GM's worldwide media, advertising and corporate marketing activities; and later director of Chevy advertising and sales promotion.

In his new position, Edwards will report to Tim Mahoney, Chevrolet's global chief marketing officer.
