Uwe Ellinghaus, who took over as the head of global marketing for General Motors Co.’s Cadillac brand in 2014, has resigned, effective Jan. 31.
He was recruited from luxury brand Montblanc International and previously was chief marketing officer for BMW AG. At Cadillac, he has led an effort to help revive the moribund brand’s stature in the luxury segment to more directly compete with Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
In a staff memo cited by Automotive News, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen praises Ellinghaus for making “tremendous strides” in driving the brand’s transformation. De Nysschen said previously the process is likely to take a decade or more.
Ellinghaus has issued no statement about his departure, but the company tells AN he is leaving for personal reasons. De Nysschen’s memo says the search for a successor will be conducted over the next several months.
