General Motors Co., which cut the price of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt extended-range hybrid by $4,000 in June, is reducing the price of next year's model by another $1,000.
That means the 2014 Volt will retail for $35,000 before a $7,500 federal income tax credit when it hits dealer showrooms later this summer. The car's standard features remain unchanged, according to the company.
GM originally hoped the Volt, which debuted in 2010, would achieve annual volume of 45,000 units in the U.S. by 2012. Actual demand last year was 23,500 units. The company aims for sales of 40,000 units in 2013, but it sold only 11,600 Volts through the first seven months of the year.
