GKN plc says it plans in 2019 to introduce a complete electric drive system for plug-in hybrid vehicles on a global platform for an unnamed European carmaker.
The eDrive module teams a water-cooled electric motor and inverter with GKN’s single-speed eAxle reduction gearbox, which the company has been selling separately since 2002. GKN says the integrated design improves system efficiency and reduces packaging requirements.
The integrated system is about 20 mm narrower and 5.5 lbs lighter than comparable systems. It generates 65 kW of power and 1,475 lb-ft of torque.
