A jury in Georgia has ruled that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV must pay a family $150 million for the death of their 4-year-old son in a fiery Jeep Grand Cherokee crash.
The jury agreed that FCA acted with "reckless and wanton disregard" for failing to tell owners that the position of the fuel tank in their Grand Cherokees made the tanks more likely to burst when hit from behind.
The award affixed 99% of the blame for the fatality on FCA. The pickup truck driver who rear-ended the Cherokee was deemed 1% liable. FCA, which contends the driver was largely at fault, says it will consider an appeal.
