Ford to Hire 200 EV Engineers

Ford Motor Co. says it will hire 200 engineers this year to work on electric and hybrid vehicle technology. The group will be housed at the company's newly dedicated Ford Engineering Laboratories, which is located on the site of Henry Ford's first labs in Dearborn, Mich.
Ford currently markets six hybrid and full-electric vehicles for its Ford and Lincoln brands in the U.S. The company has more than 650 patents related to electrified vehicles and another 1,000 pending patents. Last year, about 20% of its patent filings more than 400 were dedicated to EV technologies.
Chairman Bill Ford Jr. reiterates that the company must adapt its business model for a future that includes selling conventional cars as well as advanced mobility systems. The latter include self-driving cars, shared vehicles and other personal mobility options.
