Ford Motor Co. will recall 319,300 of its 2015-2017 model Transit fullsize vans in North America to replace a driveshaft flexible coupling that could fail.
More than 90% of affected vehicles are located in the U.S.

Ford says the component could crack, which would cause noise and vibration. If the coupling eventually breaks, the van’s transmission would be disconnected from the drive wheels. This would cause a sudden loss of motive power and allow the vehicle to roll away when shifted into Park.
A loose driveshaft under a moving vehicle also could damage fuel and brake lines beneath the vehicle’s floor.
Ford says the coupling isn’t likely to break until at least 40,000 miles. In the short term, dealers will replace the coupling in vehicles that have driven more than 40,000 miles with another such unit. When sufficient permanent repair parts are available, the coupling will be replaced with a mechanical U-joint.
