Ford Motor Co. has alerted its 70,000 salaried employees that their ranks will be reduced over the next eight months in a sweeping redesign of the company’s entire business.
CEO Jim Hackett hasn’t yet indicated which jobs or how many will be eliminated. But the company says the cuts will be completed by the end of June 2019. Ford indicated earlier this year that roughly half the reductions are likely to be in marketing and sales staffs.
The reorganization is part of Hackett’s restructuring plan to prepare the carmaker for a future where its mission expands from simply making cars to developing and providing a broad array of mobility products and services. Ford said in April that the overhaul aims to slash $25.5 billion in costs by the end of 2022.
Hackett has said his goal is to focus support on healthy operations and “deal decisively” with those that aren’t.
