Fisker Automotive and Technology Group LLC intend to relaunch production of the Fisker Karma hybrid sport coupe in Moreno Valley, Calif., according to the city.
The company will lease a 555,700 sq-ft facility and hire about 150 people, according to the city's economic development director.
Output of the original $107,900 Karma ended in mid-2012, and Fisker Automotive Holdings Inc. filed for bankrupt protection in November 2013. The company's assets were acquired for $150 million by China's Wanxiang Group Corp. in March 2014.
Wanxiang remains unclear about when Karma production might resume. Until now, the company had been saying it would build the car in Finland through contract assembler Valmet Automotive.
Sources told Reuters last September the post-bankrupt Fisker would resume output under the Elux brand in mid-2016. Wanxiang has said it plans to follow the Karma with a wagon variant called the Surf and a lower-cost Atlantic sedan.
