Fisker Automotive Inc. engineers and insurance investigators are investigating why one of the company's Karma plug-in hybrid sedans caught fire on Friday in Woodside, Calif.
Fisker says the fire originated forward of the driver's side front tire and did not damage the passenger compartment or injure anyone.
The car was not being recharged at the time, according to Fisker. The company says the fire appears to have begun outside the engine compartment and did not involve the car's lithium-ion battery, exhaust system or high-power electronics.
One of the company's Karmas was destroyed in Texas by a fire four months ago. That vehicle was not being recharged either, and the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
