Fiat SpA executives have reiterated to its major Italian unions that it intends to continue operating all five of its domestic plants despite plunging sales.

CEO Sergio Marchionne plans to unveil a revamped industrial plan for Italy on Oct. 30, according to union officials. They say it will include revised product programs and confirmation of the future of the company's Italian factories.

Raffaele Bonanni, head of the Cisl union, tells reporters that labor leaders can say "with certainty" that the company won't close its Italian plants.

Marchionne has alternately pledged to government and union officials that Fiat remain committed to Italy and threatened to move production if domestic facilities don't become more competitive.
