Ferrari NV CEO Sergio Marchionne says virtually all the company’s supercars will use some sort of hybrid-electric powertrain by 2019.
During a conference call with financial analysts this week, Marchionne said the hybrid models will feature “unique powertrain combinations” to improve fuel efficiency and boost performance.
The strategy could help Ferrari boost sales to more than 10,000 units per year by 2025, Marchionne says. Ferrari expects to sell about 8,000 vehicles worldwide this year.
Ferrari introduced its first hybrid model, the 950-hp LaFerrari coupe, in 2013. Teaming a 6.3-liter V-12 engine with a 120-kW electric motor, the vehicle can rocket from zero to 62 mph in less than three seconds and achieve a top speed of 217 mph. An open-top version of the car called LaFerrari Aperta was unveiled in September at the Paris auto show.
Ferrari also makes the track-only FXX-K, which is based on the LaFerrari. The limited-edition racecar uses a kinetic energy recovery system to boost output to 1,035 hp.
