Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is launching two recalls in North America to fix engine stalling, power steering failures and tailgate latches that could break.
The larger campaign targets 485,100 of the carmaker’s 2015-2108 model large Ram pickup trucks (right) with 8-foot beds and a tailgate power locking system. FCA says a part within the mechanism could break and allow the tailgate to unlatch and fall open unexpectedly.
The flaw does not involve the redesigned 2019-model Ram trucks or 2015-2018 models with manual tailgate latches. FCA plans to contact customers about the free repair later this month.
The second call back involves 208,200 of the carmaker’s 2017-2019 model Chrysler Pacifica minivans (left) that are equipped with engine start/stop systems, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The agency says affected vehicles have a battery ground wire whose connection is compromised by misapplied sealant. The lack of a good connection could cause the engine to stall, cut off the power steering, or both.
Dealers will clean the battery ground wire contact surfaces and reassemble the connection. The recall is expected to begin at the end of June.
