Factory orders in Germany fell by an unexpected 4% from December to January, according to the Federal Statistical Office.

Factory orders in Germany fell by an unexpected 4% from December to January, according to the Federal Statistical Office. Economists had expected a 1% decline.
The shrinkage was led by a 9% drop in orders from other members of the eurozone. Orders within Germany and outside the eurozone shrank 3% and 2%, respectively.
Economists note that factory order data can be irregular, pointing out that orders jumped 4% from November to December.
