Powermat Technologies Ltd., the maker of wireless charging mats for cell phones and other personal electronic devices, has named former Blackberry Ltd. CEO Thorsten Heins to be its chairman and CEO.

The Israel-based startup supplies in-car wireless charging devices to General Motors Co., which invested $5 million in the company in 2011. GM has introduced the technology, which it calls DockSpot, in the 2015 Cadillac ATS sport sedan.

Heins succeeds Powermat founder Ran Poliakine, who was forced to step down by the board in a dispute about how to grow the company. Heins vows to scale up the technology and turn Powermat into a global supplier.
