The head of U.S. operations for Chinese electric-car startup Nio Ltd. is leaving the company next month.

Padmasree Warrior cites personal reasons for quitting as Nio’s global chief development officer and CEO of Nio USA. She joined Nio, then called NextEV, three years ago from Cisco Systems Inc., where she had been chief technology and strategy officer.

Warrior and Nio founder/CEO William Li built the Shanghai-based company into a major Chinese contender in the global EV market. The company has been described as a rival to Tesla Inc.

In August, Nio floated an initial public offering in the U.S. that raised about $1 billion and hiked the company’s market valuation to $6.4 billion.

The company introduced its first model, the $68,000 ES8 crossover, in China last December. The 644-hp car has a 220-mile range and can zip from zero to 100 kph in 4.4 seconds, according to the company.
