Sales of electric vehicles in South Korea totaled about 7,200 units through the first eight months of 2017, nearly four times the volume in the same period last year, according to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Assn.
The Hyundai Ioniq electric hatchback accounted for two-thirds of the total. Most of the remaining sales were captured by electrified versions of the Renault Samsung SME small sedan and Kia Soul MPV.
KAMA says demand for imported electrics has been microscopic. The group reports that BMW sold only 11 of its pricey i-3 electric city car in January-August.
