ECOMove ApS, a vehicle developer in Horsens, Denmark, says its QBEAK electric vehicle concept can travel as far as 185 miles per charge because of its innovative lightweight construction. The company hopes to put the car into production this year.
The QBEAK's composite chassis weights 30% less than a conventional platform, according to British developer Inrekor Ltd. The chassis was fabricated from sheets of thin aluminum separated by a layer of Arpro, a closed-cell polypropylene widely used in the auto industry as an energy-absorbing material in bumper cores and impact panels.
The QBEAK is nine feet long and weighs 882 lbs, excluding its modular battery system. The vehicle has automatic sliding side doors, a center-mounted driver's seat and room to add as many as five passenger seats.
As many as six removable battery units can be added to provide a driving range of as much as 185 miles. Power is delivered to four in-wheel motors that can propel the QBEAK to a top speed of 75 mph, according to the developers.
