Burlingame, Calif.-based Proterra Inc. says its new Catalyst E2 all-electric bus has an industry-best driving range of 350 miles.
At this level, the bus surpasses the average daily mileage requirements of nearly every U.S. mass transit route, according to Proterra. It says the bus has traveled more than 600 miles on a single charge during controlled testing.
The Catalyst E2 is powered by a 660 kWh battery pack, which takes five hours to fully replenish. A 440-kWh unit with a 194-mile range also is available.
The 43-ft bus can seat 40 people and has a top speed of 65 mph. Featuring a carbon fiber-reinforced body, the vehicle weighs about 33,000 lbs.
Proterra also makes the shorter-range Catalyst FC and XR electric buses. It has sold more than 300 of those models in North America.
