Confidence among financial market experts in Germany remains muddied but slightly positive, according to the closely watched ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment.

The index for September is unchanged at 0.5 points compared with a historic average of 24.1 points.

The Mannheim-based ZEW (Center for European Economic Research) cites an “ambiguity of economic impulses” that range from disappointing German exports to an improving economic environment for the EU overall.

The index’s assessment of current economic conditions slipped 2.5 points to 55.1 this month. But a similar measure of sentiment about the eurozone gained 0.8 to 5.4 points. ZEW says its overall indicator for Germany suggests a “favorable” outlook for Germany’s economy over the next six months.
